A Special Interview with Santa’s Elf

November 18, 2012

Can you believe that Christmas is only 5 weeks away?! Have you ordered a letter from Santa for your child yet?

Boy oh boy have we been busy this season! There are so many good girls and boys, Santa is so proud!  Since Elf Bob and I work closely in Parent-Elf Relations and don’t get to work in Santa’s Workshop quite as much as we’d like, we’ve conducted an interview with the Head Elf of the Workshop so you can get the inside scoop of what the elves do and an answer to all those burning questions.

I met with Elf Sparks via webcam and here’s what he had to say.

Me: “Hey Sparks! Thanks for taking the time to chat with me”

Elf Sparks: “Hello to you! It’s my pleasure. I’m sorry that this has to be short. As you know, this is our busy season.”

Me: “I understand. We get many questions from parents and children about the Elves, The Workshop, Rudolph and Santa, maybe you can help me clear up a few things?”

Elf Sparks: “Sure, I’m happy to help.”

Me: “All of the elves work year round, some have time for a small vacation here and there, do the elves who work in the Workshop get vacations?”

Elf Sparks: “We take a vacation right after Christmas is over to celebrate all the happiness we’ve brought to children all over the world. It’s the only vacation I get to take but that’s because I am Head of the entire Workshop. Most of the other elves are able to squeeze in one more vacation during the year.”

Me: “How do you and the elves make all the toys for the good boys and girls?

Elf Sparks: “We’re the largest distributor of toys in the world! We’re very focused and hardworking but most of all we LOVE what we do. We have a great team of elves who believe in the magic of Christmas with all their heart. This helps all of us make toys at record breaking speeds!”

Me: “Do you like working all year long making toys?”

Elf Sparks: “We love making toys for children everyday knowing they are going to be so happy when they receive their gift from Santa. The joy that we help bring the children makes it all worth it!”

Me: “Everyone wants to know, Is Rudolph really a reindeer? Does he really have a red nose? Can he really fly?”

Elf Sparks: “Of course Rudolph is real! Who do you think guides the sleigh on Christmas Eve?  His nose does shine red but only on Christmas Eve when belief in Santa and Christmas magic is at it’s peek or when he’s really embarrassed. And Yes, Rudolph can fly, just like all the other reindeer. Belief in Santa and Christmas is what helps them fly.”

Me: “Do you have any hobbies?”

Elf Sparks: “I like to play games.  My favorite game is Monopoly and Hide and Go Seek. All the reindeer, elves and even Santa join in on some of the games too!  I also like to paint. I’m not the best painter but I do my best and that’s what counts.”

Me: “What’s your favorite cookie”?

Elf Sparks: ”My personal favorite is plain sugar cookie with sprinkles. I love the sprinkles! Mrs. Claus makes the BEST sugar Christmas cookies. I can almost taste them now. Yum. Santa’s favorite are peppermint cookies. He especially loves them when he’s away from the workshop because they remind him of Christmas. “

Me: “Now to my last few questions. We all know about the Good List, every child wants to be on it, but what about the Naughty list? Are there many children on it?

Elf Sparks:”Oh yes, there are lots of children on the naughty list, even some adults too. There is still hope though, a lot of those on the naughty list make it onto the Good List with last minute good deeds during the Christmas season. It’s important to remember to be good ALL year so you don’t have to worry about making “the cut” right before Christmas”

Me: “People want to know, how does Santa do it? How does he get to every house on the planet in one night? How does he get down the chimney? What if a house doesn’t have a chimney? The whole world wants to know!”

Elf Sparks: “You know the answer, but I’ll tell you. Magic of course! How else? There are billions of children in the world, there’d be no way for Santa to reach them all without magic.  For those without a chimney, he has a magic key, silly!”

Me: “So what’s been the most popular Christmas gift request in 2012 so far?”

Elf Sparks: “Children all over are hoping and wishing to receive a personalized letter from Santa or a personalized gifts from Santa. These letters and boxes are causing a stir all over the world and have made Santa super, extra busy! Children want these packages because it provides overwhelming evidence that Santa is real and assures them that they have made the Good List. Parents can order packages for their children through the Elf-Parent Relation headquarter’s website, www.topsantaletters.com.”

Me: “Is there anything special you would like to say to the children?”

Elf Sparks: “Be happy! Be kind! Smile! Make everyday a bit like Christmas!”

Well there you have it! Your biggest questions about Santa and the Elves have been answered.

Pinterest Halloween Ideas from Santa’s Elves

October 12, 2012

Halloween is just around the corner and we elves couldn’t be more excited. Halloween is our second favorite holiday, after Christmas of course! It’s one of the few occasions we can dress in full elf uniform and not get funny looks. Nothing sparks my holiday spirit more than putting on my green and red stockings, Santa hat and elf shoes. I simply love it.

Halloween is such a creative holiday. There are so many different decorations, costumes, and treats to choose from.  Since Pinterest and DIY are huge this Halloween season, I’ve put together some of my favorite spooky ideas from my Pinterest board for you to enjoy. Maybe you and your family can try a few!

Labor Day Weekend 2012- Celebrating YOU!

August 31, 2012

Labor Day is only a few days away. Many people celebrate Labor Day each year by enjoying cooking out with friends and family or taking the day to relax. While many people celebrate Labor Day, most don’t know why it’s a holiday or what Labor Day actually stands for. Being the curious Santa’s Elf that I am, I looked into it and found out some interesting things about Labor Day.

According to The United Stated Department of Labor, “Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.”

I knew that as Head Elf of Parent-Elf Relations that I would have Labor Day off. Any Elf working outside of the North Pole gets all Federal Holidays off, including Labor Day. However, I never knew that as one of Santa’s workers, I am one of the contributors the celebration of Labor Day is meant for. In fact, almost everyone is a contributing worker no matter what  industry you work in. Keep up the good work, everyone. Keep doing your best!

History of Labor Day

Some say that Peter J. McGuire, general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a cofounder of the American Federation of Labor is the founder of idea of Labor Day, others believe that Matthew Maguire, a machinist, founded the holiday. The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City.  In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday to celebrate a “workingmen’s holiday”. The idea spread with the growth of labor organizations, and in 1885 Labor Day was celebrated in many industrial centers of the country.

Celebrating Labor Day

Early on the pattern for celebration of Labor Day usually included a street parade followed by a festival for the workers and their families. Later, speeches by prominent men and women were introduced as more emphasis was placed upon the civil significance of the holiday.

Today, forms of celebration include picnics, barbecues, fireworks displays, water sports, and public art events. Labor Day also marks the end of summer for many. Parents with school-age children use this time to take a last minute family vacation before school goes back in session. To others Labor Day is often regarded as a day of rest.

Safety Tips for Labor Day

– If spending this weekend in water-based activities, remember basic water safety rules.  Never swim alone.  Always wear a life jacket or personal flotation device when in any watercraft.

– Remember to use sunblock if you’re going to be out in the sun.

– If using fireworks, always read and follow label directions and have an adult present.

– Be careful driving, many people travel during this holiday and number of accidents increase. Remember to wear your seat belt and follow driving laws. Please no drinking and driving!

I think Elf Bob and I will enjoy this Labor Day weekend skyping with our elf friends in the North Pole. We know they’re all very busy helping with Gifts from Santa and Santa Letters but we’re excited to talk to them about the upcoming Christmas season and everything Santa is preparing. During the Labor Day weekend, we’re thinking of making our favorite Christmas cookies as a snack. We hope that whatever you and your family choose to do this Labor Day, that you have a relaxing and memorable time.

Have a happy and safe Labor Day weekend!
